Ohio's Olivia Shore paving her way and making history

***Editor's Note:  Since the release of this story, the conference officials have made it known to OWN that Olivia is in fact the 2nd female wrestler to win a CBC Middle School Conference title.  This was first achieved in 2006 by Kerstin Harmon of Indian Lake.  Kerstin went on to be a district qualifier on her HS team her junior year at 119 pounds, along with a USGWA national title and a runner-up finish. She also went on to wrestle at University of the Cumberlands where she was an AA.  This information certainly does not diminish the recent accomplish of Olivia Shore, rather proves the continued growth of women's wrestling in the state of Ohio and on the nation level.

-----------------

Wrestling is a hard enough sport period!

Wrestling in the city of St. Paris Ohio has its added pressure one would assume.

Olivia Shore, isn't fazed by either of those valid points.

The 12 year, Shore, is the very first female to earn a spot on varsity at the Graham middle school and also the first female to win a Central Buckeye Conference championship.  Not only did she win a conference crown this past weekend, but did so in impressive fashion, scoring two first period falls after an opening round bye.  Oh and this young lady also came in the #1 seed, something we will also assume was a first for this conference or most any conference around the state.

Olivia is currently 12-2 on her school season, with one of those losses coming via default after she suffered a broken finger.  Eleven of her twelve in-season wins have come in the first period.

She has been wrestling since the age of four, and has been apart of the prestigious 'Team Miron' for six years.  She is the only female on this team, lead by former Russian national champion, Miron Kharchilava.

Although she enjoys competing with 'the boys', she and her coaches have their eyes set on something much greater.  That is the women's national tournaments around the country and more so making the United States women's Olympic team one day.

What has made Olivia so tough?  Perhaps it's wrestling for Graham, perhaps it's the elite clubs she has participated with, or perhaps she just has to hold her own in a home filled with five brothers and two sisters.  If that last part doesn't make a person tough, nothing will.

Other notable acccomplishments are:

4x USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle National Champion
3x USGWA National Champion
5x USGWA State Champion
2xOhway Girls State Champion & Most outstanding wrestler
2014 War of Roses Pre Season National Champion & most outstanding wrestler

We can be sure that this isn't going to be the last major milestone that young 12 year old Olivia achieves in her career, perhaps one day we will see her on the mat in Columbus competing for a state title in a Graham Falcons singlet.  How cool would that be?

Congratulations to Olivia on her conference championship and being named the Ohio Wrestling News, wrestler of the week.
