Central Ohio Buckeye Youth Wrestling Association

The Central Ohio Buckeye Youth Wrestling Association (COBYWA) is affiliated with the OHIO Wrestling Association for Youth (OHWAY).

COBYWA includes youth programs from the Greater Central Ohio area.

The COBYWA season consists of regular season league meets on four consecutive Sundays beginning in January.  Regular season meets typically run for a duration of four hours (12:00-5:30 PM) at multiple sites with an equal number of league teams participating at each site.  Wrestlers are paired in 4-man, round-robin pools for the regular season meets based on age, weight, AND EXPERIENCE, allowing for wrestlers of all skill levels to participate on an equal playing field. The composition of wrestlers within COBYWA runs from the beginner level to intermediate to highly advanced.  The COBYWA season concludes with a regular season championship at one site featuring all teams in the league. Wrestlers are paired in double-elimination brackets for the league championship meet solely on age and weight. The league championship meet is held in February at a site TBA. Teams participating in COBYWA must participate in all of the meets and are not permitted to run separate tournaments on any of the meet dates.  In addition, each participating team is expected to provide volunteers for each meet to assist in the running of that meet.

For meets, wrestling will begin at 12:00 pm, and the coaches pairing meeting will begin at 9:00am.  As a reminder we are charging $3 per person at the door to help the hosting schools with extra expenses and custodial fees. COBYWA Director (or designee) will get with the hosting schools on who takes what tubs of paperwork and ribbons each week.

2017 COBYWA League Championships

For the first time, the COBYWA League Championships were run using OHWAY's paperless tournament system.  This resulted in a huge success for the over 700 wrestlers and their fans in attendance at Miami Trace High School.  All wrestlers were in 8-man brackets.  The event consisted of 2 sessions, that were completed in under 4 hours each, which allowed everyone to be home in time for the Super Bowl!
